1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to training for law enforcement
3 officers, probation officers, and correctional
4 officers; creating s. 943.1717, F.S.; requiring
5 that the Criminal Justice Standards and
6 Training Commission establish standards for
7 instruction in the use of tasers in self
8 defense and in the use of deadly force;
9 requiring that a minimum number of hours in
10 such training be included in the basic-skills
11 course required for certification; providing an
12 effective date.

14 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

16 Section 1. Section 943.1717, Florida Statutes, is
17 created to read:
18 943.1717 Basic-skills training in the use of tasers
19 and deadly force.--The commission shall establish standards
20 for instructing law enforcement officers in the use of tasers
21 in self defense and in the use of deadly force. Each
22 basic-skills course required for certification as a law
23 enforcement officer, probation officer, or correctional
24 officer must include a minimum of 4 hours of the training
25 required under this section.
26 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2005.
