  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing the 40th Anniversary

  3         of Florida Atlantic University.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is celebrating its

  6  40th anniversary this year, and

  7         WHEREAS, over the course of four decades Florida

  8  Atlantic University has made contributions of the highest

  9  value to its service region in Southeast Florida and to the

10  entire State of Florida, and

11         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University, a nationally

12  known model of the distributed campus structure, is currently

13  serving 26,000 undergraduate and graduate students on seven

14  campuses located along 150 miles of Florida's southeast

15  coastline, and

16         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is developing

17  rapidly as a center of 21st-century biomedical research and is

18  playing an ever-expanding role in the worldwide effort to find

19  better diagnostic and treatment options for a host of serious

20  illnesses, and

21         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University has become a true

22  engine of economic development in Southeast Florida,

23  generating more than $1 billion annually in regional economic

24  activity, NOW, THEREFORE,

26  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

27  

28         That the Senate offers sincere congratulations to

29  Florida Atlantic University during this 40th Anniversary Year

30  and commends the university for achieving excellence in

31  teaching, research, and public service.
