12  the following amendment:

15         On page 84, line 27, through
16            page 85, line 6, delete those lines

18  and insert:  
19         Section 33.  Paragraph (f) of subsection (1) of section
20  1011.62, Florida Statutes, is amended, present subsection (9)
21  of that section is redesignated as subsection (10), and a new
22  subsection (9) is added to that section to read:
23         1011.62  Funds for operation of schools.--If the annual
24  allocation from the Florida Education Finance Program to each
25  district for operation of schools is not determined in the
26  annual appropriations act or the substantive bill implementing
27  the annual appropriations act, it shall be determined as
28  follows:
29         (1)  COMPUTATION OF THE BASIC AMOUNT TO BE INCLUDED FOR
30  OPERATION.--The following procedure shall be followed in
31  determining the annual allocation to each district for

There is created a categorical fund to provide 5 supplemental academic instruction to students in kindergarten 6 through grade 12. This paragraph may be cited as the 7 "Supplemental Academic Instruction Categorical Fund." 8 2. Categorical funds for supplemental academic 9 instruction shall be allocated annually to each school 10 district in the amount provided in the General Appropriations 11 Act. These funds shall be in addition to the funds 12 appropriated on the basis of FTE student membership in the 13 Florida Education Finance Program and shall be included in the 14 total potential funds of each district. These funds shall be 15 used to provide supplemental academic instruction to students 16 enrolled in the K-12 program. Supplemental instruction 17 strategies may include, but are not limited to: modified 18 curriculum, reading instruction, after-school instruction, 19 tutoring, mentoring, class size reduction, extended school 20 year, intensive skills development in summer school, and other 21 methods for improving student achievement. Supplemental 22 instruction may be provided to a student in any manner and at 23 any time during or beyond the regular 180-day term identified 24 by the school as being the most effective and efficient way to 25 best help that student progress from grade to grade and to 26 graduate. 27 3. Effective with the 1999-2000 fiscal year, funding 28 on the basis of FTE membership beyond the 180-day regular term 29 shall be provided in the FEFP only for students enrolled in 30 juvenile justice education programs or in an education program 31 for juveniles under s. 985.223. Florida Senate - 2005 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. CS for SB 2480 Barcode 411698 1 the regular 180-day school year for all other K-12 students 2 shall be provided through the supplemental academic 3 instruction categorical fund and other state, federal, and 4 local fund sources with ample flexibility for schools to 5 provide supplemental instruction to assist students in 6 progressing from grade to grade and graduating. 7 4. The Florida State University School, as a lab 8 school, is authorized to expend from its FEFP or Lottery 9 Enhancement Trust Fund allocation the cost to the student of 10 remediation in reading, writing, or mathematics for any 11 graduate who requires remediation at a postsecondary 12 educational institution. 13 5.
