  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to seaports; requiring the

  3         Department of Law Enforcement to develop a

  4         program to survey the underwater areas of

  5         certain deepwater seaports; designating certain

  6         deepwater seaports; providing an appropriation;

  7         providing an effective date.

  8  

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  On or before July 1, 2006, the Department

12  of Law Enforcement shall develop and implement a program to

13  conduct, at least biennially, a survey, using a sonar scanning

14  system that generates highly detailed two- and

15  three-dimensional maps and charts, of the underwater areas of

16  each deepwater seaport in this state which serves cargo or

17  passenger vessels. For purposes if this section, the term

18  "deepwater seaport" means each of the ports of Jacksonville,

19  Port Canaveral, Palm Beach, Port Everglades, Miami, Port

20  Manatee, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Panama City, Pensacola, Key

21  West, and Fernandina.

22         Section 2.  The sum of $1.5 million is appropriated

23  from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Law

24  Enforcement to administer this act.

25         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.

 4  This CS clarifies the term "deepwater seaport" means each of
    the ports of Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Palm Beach, Port
 5  Everglades, Miami, Port Manatee, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Panama
    City, Pensacola, Key West, and Fernandina, which are the
 6  twelve active seaports identified in s. 311.09, F.S.
