  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to caregivers for adults;

  3         creating the Seniors Offering Services program

  4         within the Department of Elderly Affairs;

  5         providing purposes; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Seniors Offering Services program.--Seniors

11  Offering Services is created as an independent, not-for-profit

12  corporation within the Department of Elderly Affairs. The

13  purpose of the program is:

14         (1)  To foster the development of training and

15  employment opportunities for economically disadvantaged

16  workers 55 years of age and older which are critical to the

17  provision of community-based and institutional care for frail

18  and vulnerable adults who live in the community.

19         (2)  To assist in meeting the growing demand for

20  in-home, companion-care services and prevent costly premature

21  institutional placement.

22         (3)  To become a direct referral resource for the

23  department.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.
