  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing March 22, 2005, as

  3         "Florida Film and Television Production

  4         Industry Day."

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the film and entertainment industry employs

  7  more than 42,000 Floridians, and

  8         WHEREAS, in 2002, sales generated from film and video

  9  production alone reached more than $1.16 billion, employing a

10  total of 10,083 Floridians in more than 1,554 firms, and

11         WHEREAS, from 1995 to 2001, Florida employment in film

12  and video production grew by a compound annual rate of 11.7

13  percent, wages grew by a compound annual rate of 14.1 percent,

14  and units of employment grew by 7.6 percent, and

15         WHEREAS, at the end of 2003, Florida ranked first in

16  the nation for Spanish-language film and television

17  production, and third in the nation for location production,

18  and

19         WHEREAS, television and cable constitute Florida's

20  largest production industry at 47 percent, followed by motion

21  picture and video at 24 percent, and

22         WHEREAS, in 2002, 17 national cable networks were

23  headquartered in Florida, including two of the largest

24  Spanish-language networks in the world, Telemundo and

25  Univision, and

26         WHEREAS, the leading source of revenue generated by

27  Florida's film and video production industry is commercial

28  production, with 33 percent of revenue produced in that

29  sector, and

 1         WHEREAS, Florida averages more than 100,000 hotel room

 2  nights booked per year as a result of production at Florida

 3  locations, and

 4         WHEREAS, there are 21 full-service local film

 5  commission offices and 34 local film commission liaisons in

 6  Florida and more than 51 studios and sound stages across the

 7  state which work in partnership with the Governor's Office of

 8  Film and Entertainment to promote Florida's industry

 9  infrastructure and locations at the state, national, and

10  international level, NOW, THEREFORE,

11  

12  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

13  

14         That Tuesday, March 22, 2005, is recognized as "Florida

15  Film and Television Production Industry Day" at the Florida

16  State Capitol.
