1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing Dr. Albert E. Dotson
3 and Dr. Earlene Dotson for their many
4 accomplishments.

6 WHEREAS, on July 11, 1959, high-school sweethearts
7 Albert E. Dotson and Earlene Puryear were married in
8 Hamtramck, Michigan, and
9 WHEREAS, Albert's first job was at Sears Roebuck &
10 Company in Detroit where he was employed in 1956 as a
11 part-time stock boy, and
12 WHEREAS, on April 1, 1971, he became the first
13 African-American to manage a Sears store, in Chicago,
14 Illinois, and
15 WHEREAS, the Dotson family subsequently moved to
16 Atlanta, Georgia, for 3 years and then relocated to Miami,
17 where they still reside, and
18 WHEREAS, today, Dr. Dotson is chair and chief executive
19 officer of Puryear, Inc., a consulting firm, and
20 WHEREAS, in addition to his vocational accomplishments,
21 Dr. Dotson has since 1983 been a member of the Florida
22 International University Foundation Board, and, in 1986, he
23 was appointed by the Chancellor of the State University System
24 to FIU's most recent presidential search committee, and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Dotson also is a member of the Greater
26 Miami Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors, sits on the
27 boards of Barry University and the Dade County Fair and Expo,
28 and served as president of the Orange Bowl Committee in 1998,

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Dotson has played leadership roles with
2 the NAACP, the Salvation Army, the Perrine Cutler Ridge
3 Council, and the Baptist Health System of South Florida, and
4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Dotson is the president of Eagle Security
5 Service, Inc. and Puryear, Inc., and
6 WHEREAS, after the Dotson's five children were grown,
7 Mrs. Dotson returned to school and earned a Bachelor of
8 Science degree in Human Resource Management and Biblical
9 Studies from Trinity College, and
10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Dotson is a charter member and the
11 founding president of the Greater Miami Chapter of the
12 Continental Societies and was elected their national president
13 in July 2001, and
14 WHEREAS, she is a deaconess at Sweet Home Baptist
15 Church, where she coordinates sending mail to active-military
16 church members and coteaches a married-couple's Sunday School
17 class with her husband, and
18 WHEREAS, in December 1998, Barry University bestowed
19 doctoral degrees upon both Dr. Albert and Dr. Earlene Dotson,
20 in honor of their distinguished community service and
21 involvement, NOW, THEREFORE,

23 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
24
25 That Dr. Albert E. Dotson and Dr. Earlene Puryear
26 Dotson are commended for their outstanding accomplishments in
27 business, in the Miami-Dade community, and in their family
28 life.
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
30 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Drs.
