  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring women in Florida

  3         agriculture.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Florida's agricultural industry has a

  6  significant impact on the economy of the state, and 18 percent

  7  of the farmers in Florida are women, and

  8         WHEREAS, women are key to development of rural areas

  9  through their contributions to sustainable agriculture and

10  rural development, including food security, and

11         WHEREAS, as Florida's agricultural industry has changed

12  dramatically during the past 20 years, so too has the role of

13  the state's farm women, and

14         WHEREAS, women in agriculture are being called upon to

15  educate the public about farm issues and farm life and to

16  represent agriculture in the public policy arena, and

17         WHEREAS, women in agriculture are directly involved in

18  production, and a growing number are serving in political

19  leadership positions on the state and local levels, and

20         WHEREAS, March 29, 2005, is an appropriate day on which

21  to honor women in Florida agriculture, NOW, THEREFORE,

22  

23  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

24  

25         That the Senate proudly recognizes and enthusiastically

26  salutes all women involved in Florida's agricultural industry

27  and commends them for their vital role in protecting the

28  state's agricultural environment.
