  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution supporting the nation's New Vision

  3         for Space Exploration and encouraging Congress

  4         to continue to enact and fully fund the

  5         National Aeronautics and Space Administration's

  6         program implementing the nation's New Vision

  7         for Space Exploration.

  8  

  9         WHEREAS, the United States is a nation of explorers and

10  has led the world in the exploration of outer space, and

11  exploration and discovery are not options we choose, but

12  desires written in the human heart, and

13         WHEREAS, space exploration benefits all humankind

14  through new technologies and commercial products for everyday

15  application, new jobs and economic contributions through new

16  markets and commercial products, and improved life quality not

17  only for United States citizens, but for people worldwide, and

18         WHEREAS, Florida has been the world's premier gateway

19  to space for human exploration and commerce for more than 50

20  years, and

21         WHEREAS, the nation's New Vision for Space Exploration

22  charts a new strategy to explore destinations across the solar

23  system, providing this nation with the competitive edge in the

24  new worldwide industry of space commerce, and

25         WHEREAS, the space industry's direct economic benefit

26  to Florida is nearly $4 billion annually and generates more

27  than 35,000 jobs throughout the state, and

28         WHEREAS, Congress has seen fit to approve and enact

29  NASA's 2005 budget initiating the New Vision for Space

30  Exploration, and

 1         WHEREAS, the New Vision for Space Exploration charts a

 2  course that begins in Florida with the safe return of the

 3  space shuttle to flight, the completion of the international

 4  space station, returning humans to earth's moon, and extending

 5  mankind's presence to Mars and beyond, NOW, THEREFORE,

 6  

 7  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 8  

 9         That the Congress of the United States is congratulated

10  for funding and fully supporting NASA's implementation plan

11  for the space exploration missions as submitted to Congress in

12  the 2006 Budget of the United States Government and is

13  requested to continue to fully support the New Vision for

14  Space Exploration well into the future so that the United

15  States, and Florida in particular, will remain leaders in the

16  exploration of space.

17         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution

18  be provided to the President of the United States, the

19  President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the

20  United States House of Representatives, and each member of the

21  Florida Congressional Delegation.
