  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution commending Hadassah, the Women's

  3         Zionist Organization of America, and the

  4         Florida Central, Florida Broward, Greater

  5         Miami, and Florida Atlantic Regions.

  6  

  7         WHEREAS, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of

  8  America, the largest Zionist, largest Jewish, and largest

  9  women's membership organization in the country, was founded in

10  1912 by Henrietta Szold to help meet the medical needs of

11  Palestinians, and

12         WHEREAS, since that time, Hadassah has been a leading

13  force in supporting Israel's medical needs through Mt. Scopus

14  Hospital, Ein Karem Hospital, and various clinics across the

15  country, and

16         WHEREAS, Hadassah hospitals, in addition to serving as

17  a model of peaceful coexistence in the Middle East, provide

18  state-of-the-art health care to 600,000 patients a year -

19  regardless of race, religion, or creed - and often treat the

20  most critically wounded in the region's ongoing conflicts, and

21         WHEREAS, in the United States, Hadassah women sold $200

22  million in US World War II bonds as their first national

23  domestic effort, and

24         WHEREAS, since then, Hadassah women have been actively

25  engaged in domestic health education programs on breast cancer

26  and osteoporosis; voter registration efforts; Jewish

27  education; grassroots advocacy on US-Israel relations, Jewish

28  communal concerns, and women's issues; humanitarian relief to

29  distressed communities and countries, including most recently,

30  the victims of the tsunami disaster; and volunteer work in

31  literacy programs and at domestic violence shelters, and

 1         WHEREAS, today, Wednesday, March 30, 2005, Hadassah

 2  women have gathered at the Capitol in Tallahassee to help

 3  educate Florida Legislators on the value of supporting

 4  embryonic stem cell research for all Floridians, NOW,

 5  THEREFORE,

 6  

 7  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 8  

 9         That Hadassah's Florida Central, Florida Broward,

10  Florida Atlantic, and Greater Miami Regions are commended on

11  the activities of its members in playing a vital role in

12  improving the quality of life of people in Florida and the

13  United States, in Israel and Palestine, and elsewhere in the

14  world.
