1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing April 2005 as "Organ
3 and Tissue Donation Awareness Month" and
4 encouraging Floridians to become a part of the
5 Florida Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

7 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate recognizes the
8 contributions made every day by families, family members,
9 donor organizations, and private individuals in prolonging
10 life and the quality of life of fellow human beings through
11 organ and tissue donations, and
12 WHEREAS, organ and tissue donation is encouraged if
13 government and private entities work together to provide
14 educational tools that encourage family discussions and
15 encourage individuals to make conscious choices concerning the
16 disposition of their organs and tissue, and
17 WHEREAS, in the United States more than 87,000
18 individuals are on the National Organ Donor Waiting List, and
19 WHEREAS, Florida currently has more than 3,000
20 individuals on the National Organ Donor Waiting List, and
21 WHEREAS, on average, 18 people die each day because of
22 a lack of donated organs and tissue, and
23 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate recognizes the dedication,
24 selflessness, and contributions of donor families who choose
25 to provide the ultimate "Gift of Life" so that others might
26 live or have a better quality of life, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

30 That April 2005 is recognized as "Organ and Tissue
31 Donation Awareness Month" in the State of Florida, and all

1 residents of this state are urged to have family discussions
2 encouraging family members to become part of the Florida Organ
