  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Broward County; amending

  3         chapter 75-350, Laws of Florida, as amended;

  4         revising timeframe for municipal elections;

  5         providing dates for candidates to file

  6         paperwork; providing dates of municipal primary

  7         and general elections; providing an effective

  8         date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Sections 2 and 3 of chapter 75-350, Laws of

13  Florida, as amended by chapter 2004-443, Laws of Florida, are

14  amended to read:

15         Section 2.  For any municipal elections held in Broward

16  County in March of a calendar year, candidates for office in

17  such elections shall file such papers and pay such fees as may

18  be required by law with the applicable municipal clerk no

19  earlier than noon on the first work day in January nor later

20  than noon on the 7th 14th day following the first work day in

21  January of the calendar year in which the election is to be

22  held. For any municipal elections held in Broward County in

23  November of a calendar year, candidates for office in such

24  elections shall file such papers and pay such fees as may be

25  required by law with the applicable municipal clerk no earlier

26  than noon on the first work day in September nor later than

27  noon on the 7th 14th day following the first work day in

28  September of the calendar year in which the election is to be

29  held.

30         Section 3.  Any primary election relating to a

31  municipal office held in a municipality in Broward County

 1  shall be held on the Tuesday 9 weeks prior to the

 2  corresponding general election, second Tuesday in February of

 3  a calendar year or the first Tuesday of October of any

 4  even-numbered calendar year and all general elections relating

 5  to a municipal office held in a municipality in Broward County

 6  shall be held on the second Tuesday in March of a calendar

 7  year or the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November

 8  of any even-numbered calendar year.

 9         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

10  law.
