  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing the accomplishments of

  3         Robert L. Epling.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Robert L. Epling, President and CEO of

  6  Community Bank of Florida since 1977, is one of South

  7  Florida's most distinguished business and civic leaders, and

  8         WHEREAS, Mr. Epling was the 55th President of the

  9  Orange Bowl Committee, served as the leader of the 1993-1994

10  Festival, and was Chair of the 1996 South Florida Olympic

11  Soccer Organizing Committee, and

12         WHEREAS, Robert Epling provides leadership and energy

13  to a wide variety of community support organizations, serving

14  on the executive board of the South Florida Council of Boy

15  Scouts of America and as a member of the Homestead Rotary

16  Club, and

17         WHEREAS, he is also Chair of the Board of the

18  International Hurricane Center, and spent countless hours

19  helping to rebuild the devastated community of Homestead

20  following Hurricane Andrew, and

21         WHEREAS, in addition, Robert Epling serves on the Board

22  of AvMed, Inc., is the Founding Chair of the Vision Council,

23  served as Chair of Beacon Council, Dade's official economic

24  development agency, and currently serves on additional boards

25  and foundations, and

26         WHEREAS, in his role as a financial leader, Mr. Epling

27  has served as the president of banks in Lexington, Kentucky,

28  and Dania and Marathon in Florida, and spent 3 years as an

29  assistant bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance

30  Corporation (FDIC) in Washington, D.C., and

 1         WHEREAS, Robert Epling was president of the Community

 2  Bankers/Florida Bankers Association from 1988 to 1990,

 3  received the Community Bankers of Florida's "Banker of the

 4  Year" award in 1993, was honored with a University

 5  Distinguished Service Award from Florida International

 6  University in 1999, and was presented with the Florida Bankers

 7  Association "Legends Award" in 2003, and

 8         WHEREAS, in addition to his business and community

 9  leadership work, Robert Epling has also been an agricultural

10  leader and grower of limes for more than 25 years, and he is

11  on the Board of the Dade County Farm Bureau, NOW, THEREFORE,

12  

13  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

14  

15         That the Senate commends the many professional and

16  community service accomplishments of Robert L. Epling and

17  recognizes the many ways in which his leadership and activism

18  have benefitted the State of Florida.
