2 A resolution recognizing and commending the
3 philanthropic leadership of Mr. Hodding Carter,
4 III.

6 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, has demonstrated a
7 lifelong commitment to the highest principles of philanthropy,
8 a distinguished American tradition, and
9 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, has displayed
10 high-profile leadership in his efforts to communicate the
11 values of philanthropy, marked by his eminent board service
12 with Florida Philanthropic Network, the Independent Sector,
13 the Japan Society, the Center for Policy Alternatives, the
14 George C. Marshall Foundation, the Population Resource Center,
15 the Pew Center for Civic Journalism, the Southern Regional
16 Council, the International Center for Journalists, and the
17 American Council of Young Political Leaders, and
18 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, provided key leadership
19 in co-founding and funding Florida Philanthropic Network, a
20 coalition of Florida foundations dedicated to promoting and
21 developing Florida philanthropy, creating cooperation and
22 collaboration among business, government, and nonprofit
23 organizations, and promoting effective public policy in the
24 State of Florida, and
25 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, played a pivotal role in
26 reorganizing the National Community Development Initiative
27 into Living Cities, an urban development consortium of
28 foundations, private financial institutions, and the
29 Department of Housing and Urban Development working in 26
30 cities in the United States, and

1 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, was a founding board
2 member and served for 10 years with the Mississippi Action for
3 Progress, a state-wide Head Start agency serving 10,000
4 children, and
5 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, was instrumental in
6 significantly increasing the resources of the John S. and
7 James L. Knight Foundation which are available for grantmaking
8 and more than doubling the amount annually granted to worthy
9 causes during his tenure, and
10 WHEREAS, Hodding Carter, III, has been included three
11 times in the Nonprofit Times' Power and Influence Top 50 list,
12 NOW, THEREFORE,

14 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
15
16 That Hodding Carter, III, is recognized and commended
17 for his leadership, inspiration, and philanthropic work.
