2 A resolution recognizing ACS State Healthcare
3 Solutions Florida Dental Outreach Initiative.

5 WHEREAS, tooth decay is said to be the single most
6 common chronic childhood disease - five times more common than
7 asthma - and is one of the two most frequently cited reasons
8 for school absence, and
9 WHEREAS, according to the American Dental Association
10 and the American Academy of Pediatricians, children from
11 low-income families suffer from twice as many cavities as
12 their more affluent peers, and the disease is more likely to
13 remain untreated, leading to potential problems with eating,
14 speaking, and paying attention in school, and plaguing
15 individuals well into adulthood, and
16 WHEREAS, ACS State Healthcare Solutions, headquartered
17 in Atlanta, is joining the Sunshine State Dental Society and
18 the Dade County Dental Society to launch the 2005/2006 ACS
19 State Healthcare Solutions Florida Dental Outreach Initiative
20 in an effort to reach 5,000 low-income children in underserved
21 areas, providing free dental screening, giving instructions in
22 proper dental care, and making families aware of the extreme
23 importance of preventive measures such as daily brushing,
24 fluoride rinses, and dental sealants, and
25 WHEREAS, to help reinforce new behaviors learned during
26 the events, each child is presented with a gift bag of
27 products, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, calendar,
28 educational literature, and a screening
29 evaluation/recommendation report for his or her parents or
30 guardian, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That ACS State Healthcare Solutions, the Sunshine State
4 Dental Society, and the Dade County Dental Society are
5 recognized for their efforts to improve the dental health of
6 the area's children through the 2005/2006 ACS State Healthcare
7 Solutions Florida Dental Outreach Initiative.
