2 A resolution recognizing the Sumter County
3 Board of County Commissioners for its work on
4 the Florida Organic Recycling Center for
5 Excellence.

7 WHEREAS, Sumter County, in partnership with the
8 Department of Environmental Protection and with public and
9 private researchers, created the Florida Organic Recycling
10 Center for Excellence (F.O.R.C.E.), and
11 WHEREAS, the purpose of F.O.R.C.E. is to bring together
12 academic researchers and industry leaders to develop practical
13 and applicable solutions for Florida's organic waste, and
14 WHEREAS, the solid-waste stream accounts for about
15 one-half of Florida's solid waste, and
16 WHEREAS, training and outreach activities provided by
17 F.O.R.C.E. have been attended by a wide range of Florida
18 government and industry leaders, and
19 WHEREAS, F.O.R.C.E. has been active in making
20 presentations at local, state, and national meetings and
21 conferences regarding solid-waste recycling and composting,
22 and
23 WHEREAS, the efforts of F.O.R.C.E. have produced a
24 searchable database providing information and links to over
25 200 organizations nationwide in the organics processing
26 industry, and
27 WHEREAS, researchers from the public and private
28 sectors in conjunction with F.O.R.C.E. are involved in over
29 $200,000 worth of research and development projects, and

1 WHEREAS, organics recovery and production can provide
2 physical, chemical, and environmental benefits in helping to
3 protect Florida's soil and groundwater, NOW, THEREFORE,
4
5 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
6
7 That the Sumter County Commission is commended for its
8 outstanding efforts to reduce solid waste and improve the soil
9 and groundwater in the State of Florida through the Florida
10 Organic Recycling Center of Excellence.
