7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 373.0361, Florida
10 Statutes, is amended to read:
11 373.0361 Regional water supply planning.--
12 (1) By October 1, 1998, The governing board of each
13 water management district shall initiate water supply planning
14 for any each water supply planning region identified in the
15 appropriate district water management plan required under s.
16 373.036, where it determines that existing sources of water
17 are not adequate for the planning period to supply water for
18 all existing and projected reasonable-beneficial uses and to
19 sustain the water resources and related natural systems for
20 the planning period. The planning must be conducted in an open
21 public process, in coordination and cooperation with local
22 governments, regional water supply authorities,
23 government-owned and privately owned water utilities,
24 self-suppliers, and other affected and interested parties.
25 During development but prior to completion of the regional
26 water supply plan, the district must conduct at least one
27 public workshop to discuss the technical data and modeling
28 tools anticipated to be used to support the regional water
29 supply plan. A determination by the governing board that
30 initiation of a regional water supply plan for a specific
31 planning region is not needed pursuant to this section shall

1 be subject to s. 120.569. The governing board shall reevaluate
2 such a determination at least once every 5 years and shall
3 initiate a regional water supply plan, if needed, pursuant to
4 this subsection.
5 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
6 law.
