A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to traffic safety; creating the "School
3Crossing Guard Protection Law"; amending s. 316.072, F.S.;
4providing penalties for willfully failing or refusing to
5comply with a lawful order or direction of a school
6crossing guard; providing an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10     Section 1.  This act may be cited as the "School Crossing
11Guard Protection Law."
12     Section 2.  Subsection (3) of section 316.072, Florida
13Statutes, is amended to read:
14     316.072  Obedience to and effect of traffic laws.--
15     (3)  OBEDIENCE TO LAWFUL ORDERS AND DIRECTIONS OF POLICE
16AND FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS.--It is unlawful and a misdemeanor
17of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s.
18775.083, for any person willfully to fail or refuse to comply
19with any lawful order or direction of any law enforcement
20officer, traffic crash investigation officer as described in s.
21316.640, traffic infraction enforcement officer as described in
22s. 316.640, school crossing guard as described in s. 316.75, or
23member of the fire department at the scene of a fire, rescue
24operation, or other emergency. Notwithstanding the provisions of
25this subsection, certified emergency medical technicians or
26paramedics may respond to the scene of emergencies and may
27provide emergency medical treatment on the scene and provide
28transport of patients in the performance of their duties for an
29emergency medical services provider licensed under chapter 401
30and in accordance with any local emergency medical response
31protocols.
32     Section 3.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2005.
