| 14 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 15 |
|
| 16 | Section 1. Section 125.5805, Florida Statutes, is created |
| 17 | to read: |
| 18 | 125.5805 For-hire bus drivers; transport of school |
| 19 | students; required local ordinances; minimum requirements; |
| 20 | reimbursement of costs; exclusion.-- |
| 21 | (1) No later than January 1, 2006, all counties must adopt |
| 22 | an ordinance that requires every driver of a motor vehicle that |
| 23 | is regularly used for the transportation of students to or from |
| 24 | school, or to or from school activities, who receives |
| 25 | compensation for such services to register with the county. |
| 26 | (2) The ordinance shall require, at a minimum, that each |
| 27 | driver provide documentation that the driver: |
| 28 | (a) Has met level 2 background screening standards set |
| 29 | forth in chapter 435; and |
| 30 | (b) Holds a valid commercial driver's license with a |
| 31 | passenger endorsement. |
| 32 | (3) Each driver shall reimburse the county for any costs |
| 33 | of background screening or for any other expenses related to |
| 34 | administration of the ordinance. |
| 35 | (4) The provisions of this section shall not apply to |
| 36 | drivers employed by a public school or private school who meet |
| 37 | the requirements of s. 1012.45 or s. 1002.42. |
| 38 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2005. |
