13 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)
14 On page 7, between lines 17 and 18,

16 insert:
17 Section 5. Subsection (2) of section 744.387, Florida
18 Statutes, is amended to read:
19 744.387 Settlement of claims.--
20 (2) In the same manner as provided in subsection (1)
21 or as authorized by s. 744.301, the natural guardians or
22 guardian of a minor may settle any claim by or on behalf of a
23 minor that does not exceed $15,000 without bond. A legal
24 guardianship shall be required when the amount of the net
25 settlement to the ward exceeds $15,000. The present value or
26 future benefits of a structured settlement may not be included
27 in determining the net settlement to a ward for guardianship
28 purposes if the settlement includes a structured settlement
29 that does not pay benefits to the minor until the minor
30 reaches the age of majority.

14 includes a structured settlement that does not
15 pay benefits to the minor until the minor
