  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to hurricane preparedness;

  3         providing an exemption from the sales and use

  4         tax for sales of certain tangible personal

  5         property for a certain period for certain

  6         purposes; authorizing the Department of Revenue

  7         to adopt certain rules; providing an effective

  8         date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  (1)  Effective June 1, 2005, through June

13  12, 2005, no tax levied under the provisions of chapter 212,

14  Florida Statutes, shall be collected on the sale of:

15         (a)  Up to 20 sheets of plywood per day and any

16  hardware used to attach such plywood to a structure.

17         (b)  Any portable self-powered light source, and the

18  power supply for such source, having a total selling price of

19  $100 or less.

20         (c)  Any portable radio, and the power supply for such

21  radio, having a total selling price of $100 or less.

22         (d)  Any other item of tangible personal property

23  selling for $100 or less related to advance preparations to

24  secure a business or residential structure from possible

25  damage due to a hurricane or used to provide light.

26         (e)  Any portable generator selling for $500 or less to

27  provide light or communications or to preserve food in the

28  event of a power outage due to a hurricane.

29         (2)  The Department of Revenue may adopt rules pursuant

30  to sections 120.536(1) and 120.54, Florida Statutes, to carry

31  out this section.

 1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 2  law.
