  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to motor vehicle warranties;

  3         requiring warranties to automatically transfer

  4         to subsequent purchasers; providing that

  5         extended warranties do not take effect until

  6         the end of the manufacturer's standard

  7         warranty; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  (1)  A warranty covering a motor vehicle

12  sold in this state automatically transfers to all subsequent

13  purchasers of the vehicle without any notification to the

14  issuer of the warranty.

15         (2)  This section applies to standard warranties issued

16  by the manufacturer and to optional warranties issued by the

17  manufacturer or a third-party insurer.

18         (3)  The term of an extended warranty covering a motor

19  vehicle sold in this state may not take effect until the end

20  of the original manufacturer's warranty.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.
