  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to highway designations;

  3         designating a portion of State Road 50 in Lake

  4         County as the "Eric Ulysses Ramirez Highway";

  5         directing the Department of Transportation to

  6         erect suitable markers; providing an effective

  7         date.

  8  

  9         WHEREAS, Specialist Eric Ulysses Ramirez moved to Lake

10  County as a child, was raised in Lake County, attended Lake

11  County schools, and graduated from Mt. Dora High School in

12  1991, and

13         WHEREAS, Specialist Eric Ulysses Ramirez served in the

14  United States Navy and was serving his country as a member of

15  the 670th Military Police Company, California Army National

16  Guard, when he was killed on February 12, 2004, near Abu

17  Ghraib, about 30 miles west of Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol

18  was ambushed, and

19         WHEREAS, Specialist Eric Ulysses Ramirez is survived by

20  his parents, Felix and Maria Ramirez, who live in Lake County,

21  and his widow Tracy, a daughter, Isis, and a son, Chase, as

22  well as a brother, Adel, and a sister, Xochil Elmore, and

23         WHEREAS, Specialist Eric Ulysses Ramirez died a hero,

24  protecting the well-being of his fellow soldiers in Iraq and

25  fighting for the freedom that we enjoy in this country, NOW,

26  THEREFORE,

28  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

29  

30         Section 1.  Eric Ulysses Ramirez Highway designated;

31  Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers.--

 1         (1)  The portion of State Road 50 in Lake County

 2  between the community of Stuckey and the Mascotte city limits

 3  is designated as the "Eric Ulysses Ramirez Highway."

 4         (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to

 5  erect suitable markers designating the Eric Ulysses Ramirez

 6  Highway as described in subsection (1).

 7         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.
