11  The Committee on Health Care (Saunders) recommended the
12  following amendment:
13  
14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 13, line 5, after the period,
16  
17  insert:  Any contract previously awarded to a provider service
18  network operated by a hospital pursuant to this subsection
19  shall remain in effect for a period of 3 years from the
20  current contract expiration date, regardless of any
21  contractual provisions to the contrary. A provider service
22  network is a network established or organized and operated by
23  a health care provider, or group of affiliated health care
24  providers, which provides a substantial proportion of the
25  health care items and services under a contract directly
26  through the provider or affiliated group of providers and may
27  make arrangements with physicians or other health care
28  professionals, health care institutions, or any combination of
29  such individuals or institutions to assume all or part of the
30  financial risk on a prospective basis for the provision of
31  basic health services by the physicians, by other health

 1  professionals, or through the institutions. The health care
 2  providers must have a controlling interest in the governing
 3  body of the provider service network organization.

 8         On page 1, line 12, after the semicolon,
 9  
10  insert:
11         providing that a contract awarded to a provider
12         service network remains in effect for a certain
13         period of time; defining a provider service
14         network; providing health care providers with a
15         controlling interest in the governing body of
16         the provider service network organization;
