12 amendment:

17 insert:
18 Section 2. Subsections (4), (5), and (6) are added to
19 section 1 Florida Statutes, to read:
20 1003.455 Physical education; assessment.--
21 (4) By September 1, 2006, each school district shall
22 submit to the Department of Education a copy of the wellness
23 policy required by the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization
24 Act of 2004. The department shall post the policies on the
25 department website so that they may be reviewed and shared.
26 (5) By January 1, 2006, each school district is
27 encouraged to review the level of participation and evaluate
28 the success of the wellness programs throughout the district
29 in each school setting.
30 (6) School districts are encouraged to regularly
31 solicit public input regarding their policies on school

1 nutritional offerings and wellness plans so that the policies
2 meet the intent and spirit of the law, applicable rules, and
3 Sunshine State Standards and reflect the local community's
4 expectations and needs.
5 Section 3. Each public high school that has athletic
6 facilities or participates in interscholastic sports shall
7 have an operational defibrillator on the high school grounds.
8 Public and private partnerships are encouraged to cover the
9 cost associated with purchase, placement, and training on the
10 use of the defibrillator.
11 Section 4. Staff Development.--School boards are
12 encouraged to review the research and best practices regarding
13 how planned physical movement can foster enhanced learning in
14 academic subjects. Staff development for physical education
15 instructors and arts instructors must include content related
16 to an integrated curriculum, particularly in the areas of
17 reading, mathematics, arts, fitness-based instruction, and the
18 connection between movement and learning.
