House Resolution
2A resolution honoring women in Florida agriculture.

4     WHEREAS, Florida's agricultural industry has a significant
5impact on the economy of the state, and 18 percent of the
6farmers in Florida are women, and
7     WHEREAS, women are key to development of rural areas
8through their contributions to sustainable agriculture and rural
9development, including food security, and
10     WHEREAS, as Florida's agricultural industry has changed
11dramatically during the past 20 years, so too has the role of
12the state's farm women, and
13     WHEREAS, women in agriculture are being called upon to
14educate the public about farm issues and farm life and to
15represent agriculture in the public policy arena, and
16     WHEREAS, women in agriculture are directly involved in
17production, and a growing number are serving in political
18leadership positions on the state and local levels, and
19     WHEREAS, March 29, 2005, is an appropriate day on which to
20honor women in Florida agriculture, NOW, THEREFORE,

22Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
23Florida:

25     That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes and
26enthusiastically salutes all women involved in Florida's
27agricultural industry and commends them for their vital role in
28protecting the state's agricultural environment.
