| 2 | A resolution congratulating the Tampa Police Department on |
| 3 | its reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for |
| 4 | Law Enforcement Agencies for the sixth consecutive time |
| 5 | and commending the department for having taken |
| 6 | extraordinary steps in delivering quality law enforcement |
| 7 | service to the community. |

| 9 | WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has a long history of |
| 10 | valiant and dedicated service to the Tampa community, dating |
| 11 | back to its inception in 1887, and |
| 12 | WHEREAS, the Commission on Accreditation for Law |
| 13 | Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) reaccredited the Tampa Police |
| 14 | Department on July 31, 2004, for yet another 3-year term, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department is one of only two |
| 16 | agencies in the United States to have been reaccredited by CALEA |
| 17 | six consecutive times and is the only agency of its size to have |
| 18 | done so, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, to achieve accredited status, an agency must |
| 20 | comply with all 439 CALEA performance standards during a |
| 21 | rigorous on-site assessment that involves a public information |
| 22 | hearing, standards documentation reviews, ride-alongs, and |
| 23 | interviews with sworn officers and civilian personnel, and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, in complying with the CALEA performance standards, |
| 25 | the Tampa Police Department has shown that its members and staff |
| 26 | vigorously embrace the intent of the Legislature set forth in |
| 27 | section 943.125, Florida Statutes, and |
| 28 | WHEREAS, the intent of the Legislature in section 943.125, |
| 29 | Florida Statutes, is that law enforcement agencies be |
| 30 | strengthened through the adoption of meaningful standards for |
| 31 | their officers and personnel in order to provide equal and fair |
| 32 | enforcement of the law, maximize crime prevention and control |
| 33 | capabilities, and increase interagency cooperation throughout |
| 34 | the state, and |
| 35 | WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has more than 1,350 |
| 36 | sworn and civilian personnel who work together to make meeting |
| 37 | these high standards possible, NOW, THEREFORE, |
| 38 |

| 39 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 40 | Florida: |
| 41 |
|
| 42 | That the Tampa Police Department is congratulated for being |
| 43 | reaccredited for the sixth consecutive time by the Commission on |
| 44 | Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, and the department's |
| 45 | officers and staff are commended for providing outstanding law |
| 46 | enforcement service on a daily basis to more than 300,000 |
| 47 | residents of the Tampa community. |
| 48 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 49 | presented to the Tampa Police Department as a tangible token of |
| 50 | the sentiments expressed herein. |
