House Resolution
2A resolution congratulating the Tampa Police Department on
3its reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for
4Law Enforcement Agencies for the sixth consecutive time
5and commending the department for having taken
6extraordinary steps in delivering quality law enforcement
7service to the community.

9     WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has a long history of
10valiant and dedicated service to the Tampa community, dating
11back to its inception in 1887, and
12     WHEREAS, the Commission on Accreditation for Law
13Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) reaccredited the Tampa Police
14Department on July 31, 2004, for yet another 3-year term, and
15     WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department is one of only two
16agencies in the United States to have been reaccredited by CALEA
17six consecutive times and is the only agency of its size to have
18done so, and
19     WHEREAS, to achieve accredited status, an agency must
20comply with all 439 CALEA performance standards during a
21rigorous on-site assessment that involves a public information
22hearing, standards documentation reviews, ride-alongs, and
23interviews with sworn officers and civilian personnel, and
24     WHEREAS, in complying with the CALEA performance standards,
25the Tampa Police Department has shown that its members and staff
26vigorously embrace the intent of the Legislature set forth in
27section 943.125, Florida Statutes, and
28     WHEREAS, the intent of the Legislature in section 943.125,
29Florida Statutes, is that law enforcement agencies be
30strengthened through the adoption of meaningful standards for
31their officers and personnel in order to provide equal and fair
32enforcement of the law, maximize crime prevention and control
33capabilities, and increase interagency cooperation throughout
34the state, and
35     WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has more than 1,350
36sworn and civilian personnel who work together to make meeting
37these high standards possible, NOW, THEREFORE,

39Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40Florida:

42     That the Tampa Police Department is congratulated for being
43reaccredited for the sixth consecutive time by the Commission on
44Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, and the department's
45officers and staff are commended for providing outstanding law
46enforcement service on a daily basis to more than 300,000
47residents of the Tampa community.
48     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
49presented to the Tampa Police Department as a tangible token of
50the sentiments expressed herein.
