House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing April 12, 2005, as "Aviation Day"
3in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the aviation industry is one of the cornerstones
6of Florida's economy, with 19 commercial service airports and
7111 general aviation airports that are open to the public and
8more than 550 private airports, and
9     WHEREAS, Florida's airports provide nearly $90 billion
10annually in economic activity, and its aviation industry
11supports over one million jobs that generate more than $26
12billion in annual payroll, and
13     WHEREAS, Florida has the largest flight training industry
14in the world, and
15     WHEREAS, Florida's commercial service airports provide
16nonstop scheduled service to 160 domestic and international
17destinations, serve 110 million passengers annually, handle 6
18percent of the nation's air cargo, and carry in excess of 50
19percent of the visitors that come to the state each year, and
20     WHEREAS, each year, Florida's general aviation aircraft
21bring 9 million visitors to the state, and its general aviation
22airports house 14,000 aircraft, comprising 6 percent of the
23nation's general aviation fleet, and accommodate 7 million
24takeoffs and landings yearly, ranking Florida second in the
25nation in this area, NOW, THEREFORE,

27Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28Florida:

30     That the members of the House of Representatives
31enthusiastically acknowledge the outstanding contributions made
32by the more than one million employees of the aviation industry
33of the state and are pleased to recognize April 12, 2005, as
34"Aviation Day" in Florida.
