House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 14, 2005, as the first day
3of the 10th anniversary celebration of Delta Days at the
4Florida Capitol.

6     WHEREAS, since its inception in January 1913 by 22
7outstanding women at Howard University in Washington, D.C.,
8Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been a vehicle for advocacy,
9effecting social change and public policy through its Social
10Action Commission, and
11     WHEREAS, nearly six weeks after its founding, the first
12public act of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was its participation
13in the Women's Suffrage Movement demanding rights for women, and
14     WHEREAS, the Sorority is a sisterhood of college-educated
15women committed to implementing the sorority's mission through
16its Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational
17Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness,
18and International Awareness and Involvement, and
19     WHEREAS, this organization recently celebrated 92 years of
20exemplary service and support to local communities, leading
21dialogue on public policy issues, supporting quality education,
22and producing new projects to stimulate current and future
23economic growth, and
24     WHEREAS, with over 200,000 college-educated women in more
25than 950 chapters worldwide, 55 of which are located in Florida
26and the Bahamas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority members are clearly
27visible as corporate and civic leaders, productive public
28officials, acclaimed academicians, and activists, and
29     WHEREAS, Delta Sorors of the Florida Legislature include
30Senator Larcenia Bullard and Representatives Dorothy Bendross-
31Mindingall, Joyce Cusack, Audrey Gibson, and Arthenia Joyner,
32NOW, THEREFORE,

34Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
35Florida:

37     That the House of Representatives join the members of Delta
38Sigma Theta Sorority in observing March 14, 2005, as the first
39day of the 10th anniversary celebration of Delta Days at the
40Florida Capitol.
41     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
42presented to the Florida Leadership Team, Cynthia Boyd, Southern
43Regional Director, and Yolanda Moore as a tangible token of the
44sentiments expressed herein.
