House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 17, 2005, as Florida Dental
3Hygiene Association Smile Day.

5     WHEREAS, the health and welfare of residents of this state
6are of paramount concerns to the Legislature, and
7     WHEREAS, as licensed professionals, dental hygienists
8complete extensive formal education and clinical preparation and
9are essential to the pursuit of preventive oral health care, as
10well as early detection of life-threatening diseases, and
11     WHEREAS, research studies reveal that poor oral health is a
12risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, premature or low-birth
13weight babies, respiratory ailments, and other conditions, and
14     WHEREAS, dental hygienists dedicate their time to providing
15educational and preventive oral health care services to a
16diverse group, including children, the economically
17disadvantaged, the elderly, and the physically and mentally
18disabled, and
19     WHEREAS, in providing the best possible preventive oral
20health for all citizens, dental hygienists are essential in
21dental offices, public health facilities, schools, private
22organizations, and research facilities, and
23     WHEREAS, the Florida Dental Hygiene Association represents
24the profession of dental hygiene, and
25     WHEREAS, members of the Florida Dental Hygiene Association
26have traveled to Tallahassee on March 17, 2005, to sponsor Smile
27Day, NOW, THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes March
3317, 2005, as Florida Dental Hygiene Association Smile Day.
34     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
35presented to the Florida Dental Hygiene Association as a
36tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
