| 5 | WHEREAS, the health and welfare of residents of this state |
| 6 | are of paramount concerns to the Legislature, and |
| 7 | WHEREAS, as licensed professionals, dental hygienists |
| 8 | complete extensive formal education and clinical preparation and |
| 9 | are essential to the pursuit of preventive oral health care, as |
| 10 | well as early detection of life-threatening diseases, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, research studies reveal that poor oral health is a |
| 12 | risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, premature or low-birth |
| 13 | weight babies, respiratory ailments, and other conditions, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, dental hygienists dedicate their time to providing |
| 15 | educational and preventive oral health care services to a |
| 16 | diverse group, including children, the economically |
| 17 | disadvantaged, the elderly, and the physically and mentally |
| 18 | disabled, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, in providing the best possible preventive oral |
| 20 | health for all citizens, dental hygienists are essential in |
| 21 | dental offices, public health facilities, schools, private |
| 22 | organizations, and research facilities, and |
| 23 | WHEREAS, the Florida Dental Hygiene Association represents |
| 24 | the profession of dental hygiene, and |
| 25 | WHEREAS, members of the Florida Dental Hygiene Association |
| 26 | have traveled to Tallahassee on March 17, 2005, to sponsor Smile |
| 27 | Day, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 30 | Florida: |

| 32 | That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes March |
| 33 | 17, 2005, as Florida Dental Hygiene Association Smile Day. |
| 34 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 35 | presented to the Florida Dental Hygiene Association as a |
| 36 | tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
