House Resolution
2A resolution designating March 29, 2005, as "F.S.U. Day"
3in Tallahassee.

5     WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University
6is the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida and
7holds the state's first chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and
8     WHEREAS, in 1994, Florida State University joined an elite
9group of the nation's top research universities when it was
10designated as a "Research I" institution by the Carnegie
11Foundation, and
12     WHEREAS, today, Florida State University offers graduate
13and undergraduate degrees in 573 fields within 17 independent
14colleges and schools, and its comprehensive offerings prepare
15undergraduate students and students of graduate school and
16professional degree programs for successful careers, and
17     WHEREAS, Florida State University received a reaffirmation
18of its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and
19Schools Commission on Colleges, primarily through the creation
20of a Quality Enhancement Plan focusing on student leadership
21development both in and out of the classroom, and
22     WHEREAS, the Florida State University College of Medicine,
23serving the state's rural, geriatric, and other medically
24underserved populations, received full accreditation from the
25Liaison Committee on Medical Education, becoming the first new
26allopathic medical school established in the United States in
27more than 20 years, and
28     WHEREAS, the college experience continues to enrich the
29lives of Florida State University students through its long-
30standing tradition of promoting racial, ethnic, and cultural
31diversity on its campus, along with the aggressive recruitment
32of diverse groups of students, NOW, THEREFORE,

34Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
35Florida:

37     That March 29, 2005, is designated as "F.S.U. Day" in
38Tallahassee in recognition of Florida State University's
39contributions as an outstanding institution of higher education.
40     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
41presented to Dr. T. K. Wetherell, President of Florida State
42University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
43herein.
