4 | designating April 6, 2005, as "Florida Tartan Day." |

6 | WHEREAS, the American Declaration of Independence was |
7 | modeled after the Scottish Declaration of Arbroath, and almost |
8 | half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were of |
9 | Scottish descent, and |
10 | WHEREAS, Florida has a rich history of Scottish influence |
11 | as reflected in the state's culture and in the names of many of |
12 | its towns, cities, and counties, and |
13 | WHEREAS, no fewer than fourteen highland games and Celtic |
14 | festivals are held each year throughout the state, and |
15 | WHEREAS, organizations in Florida that point to the |
16 | influence and contributions of the Scottish people include the |
17 | Scottish-American Societies, The St. Andrew's Societies, the |
18 | Scottish-American Military Society, The Council of Scottish |
19 | Clans and Associations, and the New World Celts, and |
20 | WHEREAS, Florida was the home of such famous residents of |
21 | Scottish descent as Thomas Edison, Ernest Hemingway, Henry |
22 | Flagler, Andrew Carnegie, and Native American Osceola, NOW, |
23 | THEREFORE, |

25 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
26 | Florida: |

28 | That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes the |
29 | contributions made by the state's Scottish forebears and, in |
30 | their honor, is pleased to designate April 6, 2005, as "Florida |
31 | Tartan Day." |
32 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
33 | presented to the New World Celts of Dunedin as a tangible token |
34 | of the sentiments expressed herein. |
