House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the memory of Judge Henry Latimer.

4     WHEREAS, Henry Latimer was born in Ocilla, Georgia, on
5January 22, 1938, grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and went on
6to earn his undergraduate degree from Florida Agricultural and
7Mechanical University in 1963, his graduate degree from Florida
8Atlantic University in 1967, and his degree of Juris Doctor from
9the University of Miami's Law School in 1973, and
10     WHEREAS, in 1979, Henry Latimer was appointed by Florida
11Governor Bob Graham to serve as a Circuit Court Judge in Broward
12County, in which capacity he was regarded for his intellect and
13fairness and consistently received the highest rating of "most
14qualified" from lawyers who practiced in his courtroom, and
15     WHEREAS, Henry Latimer stepped down from the judgeship to
16return to private practice, and his giving spirit and commitment
17to providing legal services to the less fortunate led him to
18create the Laura Latimer Free Legal Clinic, in the name of his
19sister, through which he enlisted attorneys to provide legal
20clinics, and
21     WHEREAS, Henry Latimer, active in numerous professional
22associations and community service organizations and the
23recipient of many prestigious awards and honors, held his most
24recent position with the nationally prominent law firm of
25Greenberg Traurig, and
26     WHEREAS, on January 24, 2005, Henry Latimer, a devoted
27husband, father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend, ended
28his service upon this earth, leaving the citizens of Florida to
29mourn the loss of an influential and matchless individual, NOW,
30THEREFORE,

32Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
33Florida:

35     That the House of Representatives, with immense pride mixed
36with extreme sadness, honors the memory of an outstanding
37citizen and extends its sincere sympathy to the family, friends,
38and associates of Henry "Lat" Latimer.
39     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
40presented to the late judge's wife, Mildred Latimer, and his
41daughters, Tracie Latimer and Desiree Williams, as a tangible
42token of the sentiments expressed herein.
