House Resolution
2A resolution designating April 29, 2005, as "Dale
3Earnhardt Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt, born April
629, 1951, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, won many stock car
7races at all levels in Florida as well as in numerous other
8states, and
9     WHEREAS, known as The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt brought
10excitement and joy to his many fans in Florida and throughout
11the entire world by his phenomenal accomplishments, including
12his winning seven Winston Cup championships, a NASCAR record,
13and
14     WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt amassed 76 Winston Cup victories
15during his more than 30-year racing career and established a
16track record of 34 wins at the Daytona International Speedway,
17and
18     WHEREAS, never one to turn back from a challenge, Dale
19Earnhardt, in his twentieth attempt, won the fortieth annual
20Daytona 500, and
21     WHEREAS, as President of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., in 1999, the
22legendary racer claimed the NASCAR Busch Series Owner's
23championship at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, and,
24on five occasions, he was named Driver of the Year by the
25National Motorsports Press Association, and
26     WHEREAS, an outstanding sportsman and citizen whose
27indomitable character and determination inspired young people
28the world over, Dale Earnhardt, on February 18, 2001, was
29tragically taken from his family, his friends, and his fans on
30the final lap of the Daytona 500, and
31     WHEREAS, it is appropriate to pay tribute to the life of
32this extraordinary individual who meant so much to the people of
33this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

35Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
36Florida:

38          That April 29, 2005, is designated as "Dale Earnhardt Day"
39in Florida.
40     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
41presented to the Earnhardt family as a tangible token of the
42sentiments expressed herein.
