2 | A resolution welcoming and commending the members of the |
3 | Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated. |

5 | WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, is a highly respected |
6 | international organization of more than 10,000 professional, |
7 | accomplished, dedicated women of African ancestry in 274 |
8 | chapters located in 42 states and three countries, its mission |
9 | being to promote friendship and purposeful community service, |
10 | and |
11 | WHEREAS, members of The Links are committed role models, |
12 | mentors, activists, and volunteers who, through the |
13 | organization's International Trends and Services, National |
14 | Trends and Services, The Arts, and Services to Youth, work to |
15 | offer opportunities and hope to those who are educationally |
16 | disadvantaged and culturally deprived, and |
17 | WHEREAS, the National Trends and Services of The Links, |
18 | Incorporated, addresses issues relating to education and health |
19 | and wellness, focusing on legislation in these areas as they |
20 | impact society at large and African Americans in particular, and |
21 | WHEREAS, critical priorities of the Southern Area of The |
22 | Links, Incorporated, include the need for eliminating health |
23 | disparities in conformity with the federal Healthy People 2010 |
24 | program, which established national health objectives designed |
25 | to identify the most significant preventable threats to the |
26 | health of African Americans and targeted six focus areas that |
27 | disproportionately impact the health of African Americans, |
28 | including infant mortality, cancer, cardiovascular disease, |
29 | diabetes, HIV infections/AIDS, and immunizations, and |
30 | WHEREAS, Links from around the State of Florida have |
31 | assembled on March 31, 2005, to demonstrate their support for |
32 | the 2004 Florida Legislature's enactment of Healthy People 2010 |
33 | legislation promoting elimination of health disparities and to |
34 | express their gratitude to the Members for their prudent action |
35 | in addressing this crucial health and wellness societal need, |
36 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

38 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
39 | Florida: |

41 | That the House of Representatives welcomes the members of |
42 | the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, led by Margaret |
43 | Thompson Johnson, and commends their commitment to providing |
44 | access to equitable health care services to all Floridians and |
45 | thus affording an opportunity for increased years of good health |
46 | and quality of life for the citizens of Florida. |
47 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
48 | presented to the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, as a |
49 | tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
