House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing April 14, 2005, as "Hillsborough
3County Day."

5     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County was organized as a county in
61834 and is now comprised of some 1,050 square miles with a
7current population exceeding 1.1 million people, and
8     WHEREAS, the county is home to three municipalities: Plant
9City, chartered in 1885; Tampa, chartered in 1887; and Temple
10Terrace, chartered in 1925, and
11     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County is culturally diverse, a
12microcosm of the State of Florida with a breadth of available
13lifestyles, including a strong, urban core, smaller Main Street
14municipalities, a flourishing suburbia, community living for the
15active elderly, and rural areas for those who choose pastoral or
16agrarian lifestyles, with an average 2004 housing cost of
17$183,000, and
18     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County is the western anchor of the
19burgeoning I-4 corridor and is the state's epicenter of business
20and commerce, creating more than 21,000 jobs in 2004, dropping
21its unemployment rate to almost its pre-recession level of 2.9
22percent in early 2001, and projecting an increase in effective
23buying income of 26 percent by 2009, and
24     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County has a wealth of cultural
25facilities and programs, including Lowry Park Zoo, the "Number
26One Zoo in the United States for Kids," with an estimated
27regional economic impact of $72 million and the Tampa Bay
28Performing Arts Center, listed among the top 20 performing arts
29centers in the United States based on the number of tickets sold
30in 2004, with an estimated regional economic impact of $93
31million, NOW, THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That April 14, 2005, is recognized as "Hillsborough County
37Day" as the Florida House of the Representatives celebrates the
38"Flavors of Hillsborough" at the State Capitol.
