2A resolution recognizing April 10, 2005, as "Professional
3Golfers' Association of America Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the Professional Golfers' Association of America
6(PGA) was founded in New York City on April 10, 1916, with 35
7charter members and, today, is the world's largest working
8sports organization, comprised of more than 28,000 male and
9female professionals who are dedicated to the growth of the game
10of golf, and
11     WHEREAS, the headquarters of PGA of America, commonly known
12as PGA National, has been located in Palm Beach County since
13March 17, 1965, and recently celebrated its 40 years in Palm
14Beach County, and
15     WHEREAS, the PGA hosts one of the preeminent events of all
16sports, the Ryder Cup Matches, a tournament that, since its
17inception in 1927, has been held every two years almost without
18exception, and
19     WHEREAS, attracting large numbers of out-of-state visitors
20as well as countless residents, the more than 1,300 golf courses
21in Florida are major contributors to the economy and well-being
22of the state, generating substantial revenues, providing
23employment for thousands, raising property values, and
24protecting and enhancing the environment, and
25     WHEREAS, the golf industry in Florida makes enormous
26contributions to a wide range of community and charitable
27organizations, conducts junior golf camps for tens of thousands
28of youngsters, holds the Special Olympics National Golf
29Tournament and the National Minority College Golf Championship,
30and conducts community outreach programs that afford anyone who
31desires the opportunity to enjoy the game of golf, NOW,
32THEREFORE,

34Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
35Florida:

37     That April 10, 2005, is recognized as "Professional
38Golfers' Association of America Day" in Florida, the PGA of
39America is commended for its promotion of the game of golf and
40the resultant positive impact on the state, and residents and
41visitors alike are urged to take an afternoon and enjoy a round
42of golf.
