| 2 | A resolution honoring the Florida National Guard and |
| 3 | designating April 26, 2005, as "Florida National Guard |
| 4 | Day" in the State of Florida. |

| 6 | WHEREAS, as the military arm of the Governor and the people |
| 7 | of the State of Florida, whenever there is a crisis or an |
| 8 | emergency at home or abroad, the Florida National Guard stands |
| 9 | ready to immediately respond to a call from the Governor, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, tracing its roots to the first militia units of |
| 11 | the United States that were formed in 1565 to protect Saint |
| 12 | Augustine, the Florida National Guard boasts more 12,000 highly |
| 13 | trained and skilled men and women who serve as soldiers and |
| 14 | airmen in today's modern guard, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, the men and women of the Florida National Guard |
| 16 | and their families willingly make sacrifices during times of |
| 17 | hurricanes, fires, floods, and other natural disasters, as well |
| 18 | as during wartime, for the protection of their fellow |
| 19 | Floridians, and more than 5,400 members have responded to the |
| 20 | call to active duty, serving domestically and around the world |
| 21 | in the Global War on Terrorism, and |
| 22 | WHEREAS, in the largest call-up of the National Guard since |
| 23 | World War II, the men and women of the Florida National Guard |
| 24 | responded without reservation, serving with distinction and |
| 25 | honor for Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, and |
| 26 | Operation Iraqi Freedom, truly an affirmation of the propriety |
| 27 | of the recognition they so richly merit for their faithful and |
| 28 | successful service and for the well-placed trust of the |
| 29 | residents of this state in the preparedness and willingness of |
| 30 | these heroic soldiers and airmen to meet any crisis that may |
| 31 | occur in the future, NOW, THEREFORE, |
| 32 |

| 33 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 34 | Florida: |
| 35 |
|
| 36 | That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes the |
| 37 | significant contributions and consistent readiness of the |
| 38 | Florida National Guard, gratefully acknowledges the faithful |
| 39 | service of its dedicated soldiers and airmen, and wholeheartedly |
| 40 | designates April 26, 2005, as "Florida National Guard Day" in |
| 41 | the State of Florida. |
| 42 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 43 | presented to Major General Douglas Burnett, Adjutant General of |
| 44 | Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
