House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the Florida National Guard and
3designating April 26, 2005, as "Florida National Guard
4Day" in the State of Florida.

6     WHEREAS, as the military arm of the Governor and the people
7of the State of Florida, whenever there is a crisis or an
8emergency at home or abroad, the Florida National Guard stands
9ready to immediately respond to a call from the Governor, and
10     WHEREAS, tracing its roots to the first militia units of
11the United States that were formed in 1565 to protect Saint
12Augustine, the Florida National Guard boasts more 12,000 highly
13trained and skilled men and women who serve as soldiers and
14airmen in today's modern guard, and
15     WHEREAS, the men and women of the Florida National Guard
16and their families willingly make sacrifices during times of
17hurricanes, fires, floods, and other natural disasters, as well
18as during wartime, for the protection of their fellow
19Floridians, and more than 5,400 members have responded to the
20call to active duty, serving domestically and around the world
21in the Global War on Terrorism, and
22     WHEREAS, in the largest call-up of the National Guard since
23World War II, the men and women of the Florida National Guard
24responded without reservation, serving with distinction and
25honor for Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, and
26Operation Iraqi Freedom, truly an affirmation of the propriety
27of the recognition they so richly merit for their faithful and
28successful service and for the well-placed trust of the
29residents of this state in the preparedness and willingness of
30these heroic soldiers and airmen to meet any crisis that may
31occur in the future, NOW, THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes the
37significant contributions and consistent readiness of the
38Florida National Guard, gratefully acknowledges the faithful
39service of its dedicated soldiers and airmen, and wholeheartedly
40designates April 26, 2005, as "Florida National Guard Day" in
41the State of Florida.
42     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
43presented to Major General Douglas Burnett, Adjutant General of
44Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
