House Resolution
2A resolution designating April 20, 2005, as "F.S.U. Day"
3in Tallahassee.

5     WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University
6is the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida and
7holds the state's first chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and
8     WHEREAS, in 1994, Florida State University joined an elite
9group of the nation's top research universities being designated
10as a "Research I" institution by the Carnegie Foundation, and
11     WHEREAS, today, Florida State University offers graduate
12and undergraduate degrees in 573 fields within 17 independent
13colleges and schools, and its comprehensive offerings prepare
14students for further studies and successful careers, and
15     WHEREAS, Florida State University received a reaffirmation
16of its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and
17Schools Commission on Colleges, primarily through the creation
18of a Quality Enhancement Plan focusing on student leadership
19development both in and out of the classroom, and
20     WHEREAS, the Florida State University College of Medicine,
21serving the state's rural, geriatric, and other medically
22underserved populations, received full accreditation from the
23Liaison Committee on Medical Education, becoming the first new
24allopathic medical school established in the United States in
25over 20 years, and
26     WHEREAS, the college experience continues to enrich the
27lives of Florida State University students through the
28university's long-standing tradition of promoting racial,
29ethnic, and cultural diversity on its campus along with the
30aggressive recruitment of diverse groups of students, NOW,
31THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That the House of Representatives designates April 20,
372005, as "F.S.U. Day" in Tallahassee in recognition of Florida
38State University's contributions as an outstanding institution
39of higher education.
40     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
41presented to Dr. T. K. Wetherell, President of Florida State
42University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
43herein.
