2	A resolution commemorating the Pontian Greek genocide of
3	1914-1922.

5	WHEREAS, from 1914 to 1922, in a systematic attempt to
6	exterminate an entire civilization, the Ottoman Turks directed
7	the genocide of 353,000 Greeks living in Pontus and forced an
8	equal amount to flee their homeland, and
9	WHEREAS, today we solemnly remember the victims of this
10	devastating event in the fervent hope that their memories may
11	serve to stir the conscience of the world, and
12	WHEREAS, it is of paramount importance that utmost emphasis
13	be placed on the necessity for all civilized nations to remain
14	ever vigilant against tyranny in the firm determination that
15	such atrocities never again be perpetrated against humankind,
16	and
17	WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to remember those who
18	lost their lives in the Pontian Greek genocide of 1914-1922 and
19	to pay tribute and extend our gratitude to the survivors and
20	their descendants who have made countless enriching
21	contributions to our culture and way of life in this state and
22	this nation, NOW, THEREFORE,

24	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25	Florida:

27	That the Florida House of Representatives joins in
28	commemorating the Pontian Greek Genocide of 1914-1922 and
29	commends the Pontian Greek people for their significant
30	contributions to civilization.
