5 | WHEREAS, the Tallahassee Police Department has a long |
6 | history of valiant, dedicated service to the Tallahassee |
7 | community dating back to its inception in 1841, a record |
8 | recently attested to by the March 19, 2005, reaccreditation by |
9 | the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies |
10 | (CALEA) for yet another 3-year term, and |
11 | WHEREAS, the Tallahassee Police Department is one of only |
12 | three agencies in the United States and the second in the State |
13 | of Florida to have been reaccredited by CALEA six consecutive |
14 | times and is the only agency of its size to have done so, and |
15 | WHEREAS, to achieve accredited status, an agency must |
16 | comply with all 446 CALEA performance standards during a |
17 | rigorous onsite assessment that involves a public information |
18 | hearing, a panel review process, standards documentation |
19 | reviews, ride-alongs, and interviews with sworn officers and |
20 | civilian members, and |
21 | WHEREAS, in meeting the CALEA performance standards, the |
22 | Tallahassee Police Department has shown that its members and |
23 | staff vigorously embrace the intent of the Legislature as set |
24 | forth in section 943.125, Florida Statutes, that law enforcement |
25 | agencies adopt high and meaningful standards for their officers |
26 | and personnel in order to provide equal and fair enforcement of |
27 | the law, maximize crime prevention and control capabilities, and |
28 | increase interagency cooperation throughout the state, and |
29 | WHEREAS, the Tallahassee Police Department has more than |
30 | 597 sworn and civilian personnel who, under the leadership of |
31 | Chief Walter A. McNeil, work together to make meeting these high |
32 | standards possible, and |
33 | WHEREAS, the Tallahassee Police Department is further |
34 | recognized for its effective law enforcement services by the |
35 | naming of its Officer Charles "Chuck" Perry as the Attorney |
36 | General's 2004 Florida Officer of the Year, NOW, THEREFORE, |

38 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
39 | Florida: |

41 | That the officers and staff of the Tallahassee Police |
42 | Department are congratulated upon having received the |
43 | department's sixth consecutive reaccreditation by the Commission |
44 | on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., and are |
45 | commended for their outstanding service to the more than 169,136 |
46 | residents of the Tallahassee community. |
47 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Officer Charles "Chuck" Perry |
48 | is commended as the Attorney General's 2004 Officer of the Year. |
49 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be |
50 | presented to the Tallahassee Police Department and Officer Chuck |
51 | Perry as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
