House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing Shane Robinson, centerfielder on
3the Florida State University baseball team, for his
4record-breaking 40-game hitting streak.

6     WHEREAS, from June 5, 2004, to April 4, 2005, Shane
7Robinson, centerfielder on the Florida State University baseball
8team, had at least one hit in 40 consecutive games, and
9     WHEREAS, surpassing the previous Florida State University
10record of 34 consecutive games established by current major
11league player J.D. Drew, Shane Robinson is the only player in
12Florida collegiate history to get a hit in 40 or more
13consecutive games, and only seven other players in the history
14of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I baseball
15have had longer hitting streaks, and
16     WHEREAS, Shane Robinson not only set the Florida NCAA
17record for consecutive games with a hit, as of April 13, 2005,
18he had reached base in 56 straight games and was named to
19Baseball America's mid-season All-America Team, and
20     WHEREAS, prior to his enrolling at Florida State
21University, Shane Robinson was an extraordinary prep baseball
22player and student from Tampa's Jesuit High School, and
23     WHEREAS, Shane Robinson, an outstanding collegiate baseball
24player and student, has brought national honor and respect to
25Florida State University and to the State of Florida, NOW,
26THEREFORE,

28Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
29Florida:

31     That the House of Representatives enthusiastically
32congratulates Shane Robinson, of Tampa, Florida, for his
33historic record-setting feat of hitting safely in 40 consecutive
34NCAA Division I baseball games and extends sincere wishes to him
35and his Seminole teammates on the Florida State University
36baseball team for continued success on the diamond and in the
37classroom.
38     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
39presented to Shane Robinson as a tangible token of the
40sentiments expressed herein.
