House Resolution
2A resolution commending the Chipola College Indians 2004-
32005 Men's Basketball Team.

5     WHEREAS, Chipola Junior College, founded in 1947, became a
6public educational institution on September 1, 1948, when it
7joined the state Junior College System and, by virtue of its
8offering 4-year Bachelor of Science Degrees in Science and
9Mathematics, became Chipola College on August 18, 2003, and
10     WHEREAS, in 1961, Chipola Junior College, with its men's
11basketball team, the "Indians," hosted the first Florida Junior
12College Men's Basketball Tournament and since 1996 has been the
13exclusive site of the tournament, and
14     WHEREAS, from 1961 to 2005, the Indians Men's Basketball
15Team has won 18 Panhandle Conference Championships and nine
16State Basketball Championships and has made 10 appearances in
17the National Junior College Athletics Association Men's National
18Basketball Championship Tournament, and
19     WHEREAS, in the course of the 2004-2005 season, the Indians
20Men's Basketball Team achieved a win-loss record of 33-4,
21claimed its 18th Panhandle Conference Championship, and, on
22March 12, won the Florida Community College Activities
23Association/National Junior College Athletics Association Region
24VIII Men's Basketball Tournament, its ninth State Basketball
25Championship, and
26     WHEREAS, as winner of the 2004-2005 tournament, the team is
27not only the State Junior or Community College Basketball
28Championship recordholder, but represented Florida and Region
29VIII in the National Junior College Athletics Association Men's
30National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, on March
3122-26, finishing fourth in the nation, NOW, THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That Chipola College Indians 2004-2005 Men's Basketball
37Team members Kendaris Pelton, Stefhon Hannah, Mario Boggan,
38Truman Montgomery, Victor Gomez, Pawel Malesa, Michael Taylor,
39Ryne Hamblet, Akeem Hemingway, Anderson Ferreira, Brent Crews,
40Gerrard Jackson, and Jimmy Sloss, Head Coach Greg Heiar, and
41Assistant Coaches Micah Byars, T.J. Otzelberger, and Korey
42McCray are commended for an outstanding record of championships
43and proudly recognized as representatives of Florida and Region
44VIII in the National Junior College Men's Basketball
45Championship Tournament.
46     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
47presented to each team member and coach as a tangible token of
48the sentiments expressed herein.
