| 5 | WHEREAS, Chipola Junior College, founded in 1947, became a |
| 6 | public educational institution on September 1, 1948, when it |
| 7 | joined the state Junior College System and, by virtue of its |
| 8 | offering 4-year Bachelor of Science Degrees in Science and |
| 9 | Mathematics, became Chipola College on August 18, 2003, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, in 1961, Chipola Junior College, with its men's |
| 11 | basketball team, the "Indians," hosted the first Florida Junior |
| 12 | College Men's Basketball Tournament and since 1996 has been the |
| 13 | exclusive site of the tournament, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, from 1961 to 2005, the Indians Men's Basketball |
| 15 | Team has won 18 Panhandle Conference Championships and nine |
| 16 | State Basketball Championships and has made 10 appearances in |
| 17 | the National Junior College Athletics Association Men's National |
| 18 | Basketball Championship Tournament, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, in the course of the 2004-2005 season, the Indians |
| 20 | Men's Basketball Team achieved a win-loss record of 33-4, |
| 21 | claimed its 18th Panhandle Conference Championship, and, on |
| 22 | March 12, won the Florida Community College Activities |
| 23 | Association/National Junior College Athletics Association Region |
| 24 | VIII Men's Basketball Tournament, its ninth State Basketball |
| 25 | Championship, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, as winner of the 2004-2005 tournament, the team is |
| 27 | not only the State Junior or Community College Basketball |
| 28 | Championship recordholder, but represented Florida and Region |
| 29 | VIII in the National Junior College Athletics Association Men's |
| 30 | National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, on March |
| 31 | 22-26, finishing fourth in the nation, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 39 | Ryne Hamblet, Akeem Hemingway, Anderson Ferreira, Brent Crews, |
| 40 | Gerrard Jackson, and Jimmy Sloss, Head Coach Greg Heiar, and |
| 41 | Assistant Coaches Micah Byars, T.J. Otzelberger, and Korey |
| 42 | McCray are commended for an outstanding record of championships |
| 43 | and proudly recognized as representatives of Florida and Region |
| 44 | VIII in the National Junior College Men's Basketball |
| 45 | Championship Tournament. |
| 46 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 47 | presented to each team member and coach as a tangible token of |
| 48 | the sentiments expressed herein. |
