1	House Resolution
2	A resolution honoring Chipola College student Lauren Eade,
3	Florida's 2005 New Century Scholar.
4
5	WHEREAS, International Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa is
6	recognized internationally, nationally, and throughout the State
7	of Florida as the primary community college organization for
8	honoring academic achievement, leadership, and service, and
9	WHEREAS, Chipola College student Lauren Eade, as the top-
10	scoring student in Florida on the 2005 All-Florida Academic
11	Team, a team of highly successful community and junior college
12	students assembled by the Florida Community College System,
13	clearly merits her designation as Florida's 2005 New Century
14	Scholar and, as such, has brought honor to the state by her
15	recognition in USA Today as one of the top 50 community college
16	students in America, and
17	WHEREAS, since 1998, Chipola College has had four New
18	Century Scholars and seven Guistwhite Scholars, and both numbers
19	include Lauren Eade for the year 2005, and
20	WHEREAS, since 1998, Chipola College has had eight members
21	named to the All USA Today Academic Team and in 2005 made
22	history as the first college to have had two students named to
23	the All USA Today Academic First Team, one of whom is Lauren
24	Eade, and
25	WHEREAS, Chipola College has had seven Coca-Cola
26	Scholarship winners in the five years since the scholarship was
27	established in 2000, again including Lauren Eade in 2004, and
28	WHEREAS, since 2002, Chipola College students, including
29	Lauren Eade in 2004, have won four of the five Leaders of
30	Promise awards given in Florida since the award was established,
31	and
32	WHEREAS, Chipola College's Lauren Eade is the only student
33	ever to win all five major Phi Theta Kappa awards: New Century
34	Scholar, Guistwhite Scholar, Coca-Cola Scholarship, Leaders of
35	Promise, and All USA Today Academic Team, and
36	WHEREAS, the praiseworthy accomplishments of Lauren Eade,
37	outstanding member of Chipola's international award-winning Phi
38	Theta Kappa chapter, command the respect and admiration of the
39	House of Representatives and the citizenry of this state, both
40	for herself and her academic institution, NOW, THEREFORE,

42	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
43	Florida:

45	That Lauren Eade is congratulated for the attainment of a
46	truly remarkable academic record and is extended sincere wishes
47	for equally successful endeavors in the future.
48	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
49	presented to Lauren Eade and Chipola College as a tangible token
50	of the sentiments expressed herein.
