| 5 | WHEREAS, the Nease High School girls' soccer team defeated |
| 6 | Tallahassee Chiles by a score of 2 to 1 on February 17, 2005, at |
| 7 | Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, earning them the Class 4A |
| 8 | State Championship title after defeating Lithia Newsome by a |
| 9 | score of 1 to 0 in the state semifinals the previous day, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, Nease junior forward Ashley Hurley scored off her |
| 11 | own rebound with 34 seconds left in the second overtime of the |
| 12 | championship game after passes from Nikki Lombardo and Lauren |
| 13 | Crossan set up Hurley's winning goal, and junior forward Maddie |
| 14 | Leon scored the only goal the Panthers needed in the semifinals, |
| 15 | and |
| 16 | WHEREAS, to earn the opportunity to play for the state |
| 17 | championship, the team was successful in surviving elimination |
| 18 | in both district and regional tournaments and in the state |
| 19 | semifinal round and won matches against district foes St. |
| 20 | Augustine, Seabreeze, Atlantic, Pedro Menendez, and Palatka to |
| 21 | capture the district title and advance to the regional round |
| 22 | where the Panthers faced 31 of the best teams in Florida, and |
| 23 | WHEREAS, only two of the five opposing teams scored a goal |
| 24 | against the Panthers, a team that, led by coach Dave Silverberg, |
| 25 | has developed a pattern of success, especially in post-season |
| 26 | play, and has won two Florida state soccer championships in four |
| 27 | years, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

| 32 | That the Nease High School girls soccer team is commended |
| 33 | on winning the Class 4A State Championship and is wished similar |
| 34 | successes in upcoming seasons. |
| 35 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
