House Resolution
2A resolution commending the Nease High School girls'
3soccer team on winning the Class 4A State Championship.

5     WHEREAS, the Nease High School girls' soccer team defeated
6Tallahassee Chiles by a score of 2 to 1 on February 17, 2005, at
7Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, earning them the Class 4A
8State Championship title after defeating Lithia Newsome by a
9score of 1 to 0 in the state semifinals the previous day, and
10     WHEREAS, Nease junior forward Ashley Hurley scored off her
11own rebound with 34 seconds left in the second overtime of the
12championship game after passes from Nikki Lombardo and Lauren
13Crossan set up Hurley's winning goal, and junior forward Maddie
14Leon scored the only goal the Panthers needed in the semifinals,
15and
16     WHEREAS, to earn the opportunity to play for the state
17championship, the team was successful in surviving elimination
18in both district and regional tournaments and in the state
19semifinal round and won matches against district foes St.
20Augustine, Seabreeze, Atlantic, Pedro Menendez, and Palatka to
21capture the district title and advance to the regional round
22where the Panthers faced 31 of the best teams in Florida, and
23     WHEREAS, only two of the five opposing teams scored a goal
24against the Panthers, a team that, led by coach Dave Silverberg,
25has developed a pattern of success, especially in post-season
26play, and has won two Florida state soccer championships in four
27years, NOW, THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That the Nease High School girls soccer team is commended
33on winning the Class 4A State Championship and is wished similar
34successes in upcoming seasons.
35     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
36presented to Athletic Director Glenn Aspinwall; Coach Dave
37Silverberg; and team members Alisha Barratt, Andres Bodniowycz,
38Lauren Crossan, Leondra Daniels, Ashley Delany, Christina Dos
39Santos, Nicole Eckensberger, Kasey Eckstein, Jessica Gambill,
40Natalie Gillespie, Alexandra Green, Lauren Groves, Stacey
41Hanbury, Brittany Hawkins, Erin Hoover, Kristen Hoover, Ashley
42Hurley, Madeline Leon, Nicole Lombardo, Hannah Marvin, Michelle
43Miller, Danielle Nelson, Lauren Pizzo, Elaine Sahs, Jamie
44Silverberg, Meagan Thomas, and Ensley Whidby as a tangible token
45of the sentiments expressed herein.
