House Resolution
2A resolution designating May 1-7, 2005, as "Brain Tumor
3Action Week 2005" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, more than 190,000 people in the United States are
6diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor each year,
7and
8     WHEREAS, brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor
9cancer death in people younger than 20 years of age and are the
10third leading cause of cancer death in adults between the ages
11of 20 and 39, and
12     WHEREAS, because brain tumors are located in the control
13center for thought, emotion, and movement, their effects can be
14devastating, and
15     WHEREAS, there are more than 120 different types of brain
16tumors, making effective treatment very complicated, and,
17whether malignant or benign, brain tumors can be life
18threatening, and
19     WHEREAS, enhancing the quality of life of people with brain
20tumors requires access to quality specialty care, clinical
21trials, followup care, and rehabilitative services, and
22improving the outlook for adults and children with brain tumors
23requires research into causes of and better treatments for brain
24tumors, NOW, THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27Florida:

29     That May 1-7, 2005, is designated as "Brain Tumor Action
30Week 2005" in Florida.
