A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to automated external defibrillators;
3amending s. 401.2915, F.S.; authorizing state and local
4law enforcement vehicles to carry an automated external
5defibrillator; authorizing local governments to use
6forfeiture funds for purchasing automated external
7defibrillators; providing an effective date.

9Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11     Section 1.  Section 401.2915, Florida Statutes, is amended
12to read:
13     401.2915  Automated external defibrillators.--It is the
14intent of the Legislature that an automated external
15defibrillator may be used by any person for the purpose of
16saving the life of another person in cardiac arrest.  In order
17to ensure public health and safety:
18     (1)  All persons who use an automated external
19defibrillator must obtain appropriate training, to include
20completion of a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation or
21successful completion of a basic first aid course that includes
22cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, and demonstrated
23proficiency in the use of an automated external defibrillator.;
24     (2)  Any person or entity in possession of an automated
25external defibrillator is encouraged to register with the local
26emergency medical services medical director the existence and
27location of the automated external defibrillator.; and
28     (3)  Any person who uses an automated external
29defibrillator shall is required to activate the emergency
30medical services system as soon as possible upon use of the
31automated external defibrillator.
32     (4)  Each local and state law enforcement vehicle may carry
33an automated external defibrillator. A local government may use
34funds from forfeitures to purchase automated external
35defibrillators for its law enforcement vehicles.
36     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.
