| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |
|
| 11 | Section 1. Section 401.2915, Florida Statutes, is amended |
| 12 | to read: |
| 13 | 401.2915 Automated external defibrillators.--It is the |
| 14 | intent of the Legislature that an automated external |
| 15 | defibrillator may be used by any person for the purpose of |
| 16 | saving the life of another person in cardiac arrest. In order |
| 17 | to ensure public health and safety: |
| 18 | (1) All persons who use an automated external |
| 19 | defibrillator must obtain appropriate training, to include |
| 20 | completion of a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation or |
| 21 | successful completion of a basic first aid course that includes |
| 22 | cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, and demonstrated |
| 23 | proficiency in the use of an automated external defibrillator.; |
| 24 | (2) Any person or entity in possession of an automated |
| 25 | external defibrillator is encouraged to register with the local |
| 26 | emergency medical services medical director the existence and |
| 27 | location of the automated external defibrillator.; and |
| 28 | (3) Any person who uses an automated external |
| 29 | defibrillator shall is required to activate the emergency |
| 30 | medical services system as soon as possible upon use of the |
| 31 | automated external defibrillator. |
| 32 | (4) Each local and state law enforcement vehicle may carry |
| 33 | an automated external defibrillator. A local government may use |
| 34 | funds from forfeitures to purchase automated external |
| 35 | defibrillators for its law enforcement vehicles. |
| 36 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2005. |
