| 1 | A bill to be entitled | 
| 2 | An act relating to pharmaceutical purchasing practices; | 
| 3 | requiring the Agency for Health Care Administration and | 
| 4 | the Department of Management Services to conduct studies | 
| 5 | related to pharmaceutical purchasing practices; providing | 
| 6 | purpose; requiring a report to the Legislature; providing | 
| 7 | an effective date. |

| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: | 
| 10 | 
 | 
| 11 | Section 1.  Pharmaceutical purchasing practices.-- | 
| 12 | (1)  The Agency for Health Care Administration shall | 
| 13 | conduct a study to determine the cost savings associated with | 
| 14 | the importation of pharmaceuticals for Medicaid recipients in | 
| 15 | the state. | 
| 16 | (2)  The Department of Management Services shall conduct a | 
| 17 | study to determine the cost savings associated with the | 
| 18 | importation of pharmaceuticals for members of the state group | 
| 19 | health insurance plan or their covered dependents, or to | 
| 20 | subscribers or covered dependents of a health maintenance | 
| 21 | organization plan under the state group insurance program. | 
| 22 | (3)  The purpose of the studies required under subsections | 
| 23 | (1) and (2) is to identify more fiscally responsible | 
| 24 | pharmaceutical purchasing practices for state-funded | 
| 25 | prescription plans. | 
| 26 | (4)  The Agency for Health Care Administration and the | 
| 27 | Department of Management Services shall each report the results | 
| 28 | of their respective studies to the President of the Senate and | 
| 29 | the Speaker of the House of Representatives by August 26, 2005. | 
| 30 | Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
