11  The Committee on Health Care (Peaden) recommended the
12  following amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 3, line 19,

17  insert:  
18         Section 1.  A new subsection (8) is added to section
19  409.901, Florida Statutes, and current subsections (8) through
20  (25) are renumbered as subsections (9) through (26) and a new
21  subsection (26) is added to section 409.901, Florida Statutes,
22  and current subsections (26) and (27) are renumbered as
23  subsections (27) and (28), to read:
24         409.901  Definitions; ss. 409.901-409.920.--As used in
25  ss. 409.901-409.920, except as otherwise specifically
26  provided, the term:
27         (8) "Core Safety Net Provider" means a Safety Net
28  Provider which meets any three following criteria as
29  determined by the agency:
30         (a) Have a patient mix consisting of high uninsured,
31  Medicaid, or other vulnerable patients;

Florida Senate - 2005 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 2-B Barcode 391330 1 (b) Have a narrow patient base of primarily Medicaid 2 and uninsured; 3 (c) Have little or no ability to cost-shift; 4 (d) Provide enabling services, such as transportation 5 and translation; 6 (e) Be statutorily defined teaching hospital; 7 (f) Be public hospital; 8 (g) Be statutory rural hospital; 9 (h) Be critical access hospital; 10 (i) Be federally qualified community health center; 11 (j) Be county health department; or 12 (k) Be rural health clinic. 13 (26) "Safety Net Provider" means a person or entity 14 that organizes and delivers a significant level of health care 15 and other related services to the uninsured, Medicaid, and 16 other vulnerable persons and have either a legal mandate or an 17 explicit policy as determined by the agency, to provide 18 services regardless of a patient's ability to pay. 19 20 (Redesignate subsequent sections.) 21 22 23 ================ T I T L E A M E N D M E N T =============== 24 And the title is amended as follows: 25 On page 1, line 2, after the semicolon 26 27 insert: 28 amending s. 409.901, F.S.; providing 29 definitions; 30 31 2 9:19 AM 12/05/05 s0002B.he02.01h
