  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to diabetes prevention;

  3         amending s. 627.6408, F.S.; requiring health

  4         insurance policies in this state to cover

  5         screening for the early detection and

  6         prevention of diabetes; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 627.6408, Florida

12  Statutes, is amended to read:

13         627.6408  Diabetes treatment services.--

14         (1)  A health insurance policy or group health

15  insurance policy sold in this state must provide coverage for

16  the screening for diabetes during an annual checkup for early

17  detection and prevention of the disease for persons older than

18  40 years of age and all medically appropriate and necessary

19  equipment, supplies, and diabetes outpatient self-management

20  training and educational services used to treat diabetes, if

21  the patient's treating physician or a physician who

22  specializes in the treatment of diabetes certifies that such

23  services are necessary.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

25  law.

29    Requires that health insurance policies in this state
      cover screening for the early detection and prevention of
30    diabetes.
